Kitaro was first drawn as a manga for rent in a short story rental magazine 'Yoki-den' published by Togetsu Shobo in 1959.
This 'Yoki-den' did not generally receive any attention at all and was discontinued in the second issue, but thanks to a letter from an ardent Kitaro fan addressed to the president of Itsuki Shobo, 'Yoki-den' was revived by changing the name of the magazine to 'Kitar Graveyard' and Mizuki released Kitaro's works in each issue up to the third issue of 'Kitar Graveyard'. After the fifth Kitaro movie in the series, "When we meet, we are always dead." was released in the third edition of 'Kitar Graveyard' Seirindo was later founded due to the worsened relationship with Usagi who was over the manuscript fee, and the publishing company was moved to Sanyo Sha, which was managed by Shoichi NAGAI who created 'Monthly Manga Galo'. Sanyo Publishing Co., Ltd. announced four 'Kitaro Y wa' series.
It is a series of stories from the first issue of 'Yoki-den' "Yurei Family" to the fourth episode of 'Kitaro Y wa' "enemy in someone's face".
After 'Kitaro Y wa' two ready-made works ('The best game of the year' , 'Johnny in the Mist') were published by Togetsu Shobo, three ('funny guy' , 'I'M A NEW STUDENT.' , 'asshole') by Sato Pro and one ('secret story') by Tokosha.
