(comment) This is the original artwork used for the title page of the June 1965 issue of “Shougaku Ninensei” (Second Grade Elementary School). This illustration was not included even in the complete anthology series. The episode is titled “Sho-chan’s Cavity,” in which Q-chan chases Sho-chan after he gets a cavity. Despite the slapstick comedy tone of the story, it may have been crafted with younger elementary school children in mind, especially those starting to lose their baby teeth and learning the importance of brushing. Oba-Q is widely known as a collaborative work by the duo Fujiko Fujio, but based on the characteristics of the manuscript, it is evident that this particular piece was mainly drawn by Fujimoto-sensei. Q-chan, dressed like a dentist with an extractor hidden behind his back, is absolutely adorable. Also worth noting is the use of color, clearly designed with four-color printing in mind. (Yamaya)
