(comment) This is a colored illustration board from October 1978, toward the end of the 'Candy Candy' serialization. Perhaps because she was busy with the serialization and other work, the illustration's outlines are printed, but the coloring is done by hand. As fans will likely imagine first when thinking of Candy's color, it's certainly the green of her eyes. The comic covers also shifted: while the first volume featured a striking pink illustration, from volume two onward green became more emphasized, and the final volume used an illustration that highlighted green more than the flowers. Indeed, "green" can be said to be the color that symbolizes Candy. Looking at this colored illustration, on the other hand, you can see green being used effectively where a typical shoujo manga would likely use warm colors (Yamatani).
