A collection of works by Kyosai, an artist from the end of the Edo period and Meiji period, published during his lifetime, consisting of four volumes. The concept differs depending on the volume, such as autobiographical content or "illustrated examples'' that reproduce and organize paintings from various schools of ancient and modern times. The monster pictures are included in the second volume of the inner story. The painting of Nurarihyon and ghosts is based on the painting by Sekien Toriyama, a famous yokai artist from the Edo period.
