(comment) This is the frontispiece for "U-ko-chan's Art Training Chapter," published in the March 1966 issue of Sixth Grader magazine. Obake no Q-taro was serialized in Weekly Shonen Sunday magazine and various grade-level magazines, but the early appearances of U-ko were only in Sixth Grader magazine. This episode is the one where Uko made her debut and, in the issue published the following month, there is a note at the bottom saying, "Uko trains in Japanese traditional arts (flower arrangement, tea ceremony, traditional dance, etc.)." The note doesn't mention it, but Japanese tradition "judo" is the punchline, and it becomes Uko's recurring theme thereafter: however, at this point, it seems judo wasn't yet emphasized (Yamatani).
