(comment) Soss, who had been traveling around the country by car with his 8x10 large format camera, continued to take photographs, but after the publication of "Songbook" and "Gathered Leaves," he temporarily distanced himself from photography. After living for about a year and a half without even touching a camera, he published this book, "I Know How Furiously Your Heart Is Beating." The title is a quote from a line in the poem "The Gray Room" by America poet Wallace Stevens. Unlike his previous works, the entire book is shot mainly indoors (in private rooms). This was due to a heartfelt desire to confront others as individuals and feel their presence, rather than capturing people within the broad framework of "America."
