(comment) boys and girls manga 12 The author, Kiyomi Ishii, is the author of "Rika the Half-Blood Child'' and "Ino no Shika Ocho''. Serialized in Kobunsha's "Shoujo" from August 1958 to January 1960. This is a masterpiece of ordinary girls' manga. Because Nippon Mangasha's books are mostly new illustrations, it is extremely rare for works serialized in monthly magazines to be published as books. What's more, this is an unusual book in which the last three months of a nearly two-year long series (*1) were forcibly added to the book. Of course it's rare, but what's even more important is that it's a book that Sanpei Shirato likely helped with. In order to forcibly complete the story, 4 pages were added to the August to October 1950 issues. The first page of this addition has a touch reminiscent of Sanpei Shirato. The publisher, Nihon Mangasha, was founded in 1955 by Katsuichi Nagai, who later became editor-in-chief of Garo. Sanpei Shirato published 19 books from Nippon Mangasha, and he also created many cover illustrations for other authors' books, giving the impression that his relationship with Nagai was more than that of an affiliated writer. Kiyomi Ishii made her debut as a manga artist by drawing her red book for Katsuichi Nagai's first publishing company, Bunrindo. It seems that because he is an old friend of hers, it was possible to forcefully publish the book in this way. Shirato and Bonten were friends, as mentioned in an interview with Shirato in her later years. When considering where the points of contact were, a passage often referred to is a passage from Kada Koji's Kamishibai Showa History (Iwanami Shoten): "During the days of ordinary Kiyomi Ishii, Sanpei Shirato and Shigeru Mizuki (*2) I am helping him with his picture story work.'' However, Shirato stopped doing picture-story shows in 1955, at the same time as Ishii moved into girls' manga, so if he was helping, it would be girls' manga, not picture stories. The touch of the added page, the time when Shirato is likely to be helping, and the publication is "Nihon Mangasha". Based on this keyword connection, there is a strong possibility that this book of "Hoshihimesama'' is one of Kiyomi Ishii's works that Sanpei Shirato helped with (Hiroshi Kunisawa)
(*1) Serialized in Kobunsha's "Shoujo" August 1958 issue to January 1960 issue. "Hoshihime-sama'' is a story about Hoshihime-sama, who is oppressed by her stepmother and goes on a journey to find her real mother after an attempt is made on her life within the castle. The repeated encounters where they almost meet and then fail to meet each other have captured the hearts of readers and have been serialized for nearly two years. (*2) It is impossible that Shigeru Mizuki helped with the picture story in 1950, when Ishii was working on the picture story, as he had not yet moved to Tokyo. |
