(comment) This work was published in the New Year special issue of Monthly Shonen Jump in 1975, the year after Nagashima’s retirement. In a feature titled "Baseball Hero Issue," this work graced the opening color spread. The manga is set in 1970, an evidently poor season for Nagashima, and tells the story of how he overcame that slump. Like this manga, the figure of Shigeo Nagashima is not confined to professional baseball: he has been engraved into Japanese culture as one of the nation’s stories and character archetypes. A rare superstar who embodied postwar Japan’s dreams and courage not by imposing them on others but by sharing them through experience, we will not forget the magnificent figure of Shigeo Nagashima (Yamatani).
