A Zero-class reconnaissance seaplane is depicted returning to background of the dense air characteristic of the South Pacific. The Mogami-class cruisers were, in a sense, heavy cruisers that had been prepared in anticipation of a war following the London Naval Treaty, and the majestic presence of the Mikuma could only be seen for a very short period after the start of the war (Yamaya).
